Derk Wiggers was born in Amersfoort 26-09-1866 and died in The Hague
15-02-1933. Signed often: Wiggers. Lived and workd in Kralingen (Rotterdam)
before 1885 (Loosduinen 1891) until 1894, Nunspeet until 1895, Rheden until
1897, Heelsum until 1902, Berg en Dal until 1917, Laren until 1918, Blaricum
until 1920, Laren until 1923 (travelling abroad via Belgium, France towards
Spain and Italy), Ukkel (Belgium) until 1929, there after in The Hague. Was
student of the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, further autodidact.
Initially a no-tary's clerk; painted, watercoloured, drew and etched landscapes,
mainly panorama's of the great rivers of Hol-land, farmhouses and still lifes.
Received several decorations, among others the gold medal of queen Wilhelmina at
the exhibition of 'Arti et Amicitiae' in Amsterdam in 1909.Was member of this
society and of 'Pulchri Studio' in The Hague. Teacher of A. van der Boon, W.J.
Havelaar; advisor to O.J.W.C. Graaf van Bylandt.
